Veer Colonel Ashok Tara: 1971 War Hero
In 1971, India won the war and Pakistan surrendered. However, one mission was still incomplete. Bangladesh's to be Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family was being held captive by Pakistani soldiers. Major Ashok Tara was given the responsibility to make sure that Rahman's family was safe. During a daring rescue from the clutches of the Pakistani Army, Tara saved the life of Sheikh Hasina and her newborn child. he was awarded Cir Chakra for his bravery during the Gangasagar operation in 1971. Colonel Tara got recognition for saving the life of a future Prime Minister in 2012 when Dhaka announced it was conferring the 'Friend of Bangladesh' Award to him.
