Veer Brigadier JK Tomar: 1971 - Battle of Balnoi
In 1971, India was fighting a war with Pakistan on the Eastern side. Liberation of Bangladesh was the prime motive. Howev er, India's neighbour Pakistan planned on attacking India from the West. Puunch village in Jammu and Kashmir was of supreme importance from the Army's strategic point of view. But the approach to reach Puunch was through Balnoi. The attack on the Indian Army was planned for the night. Amidst freezing cold waves of December, the Indian Army battled with Pakistan. Brigadier JK Tomar, along with his men, crushed the dreams of the Pakistani Army. He was awarded Vir Chakra by the then President of India - V.V. Giri.
